Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada

9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance

Be the Change. Volunteer.

Join Us for the Second Annual
National Day of Service and Remembrance

Thoughts & Wishes for our TroopsJoin United Way of Southern Nevada’s Volunteer Center by taking part in the second annual National Day of Service & Remembrance - Helping Heroes.  Our Helping Heroes project will focus on assisting at-risk and homeless veterans in southern Nevada in partnership with U.S. Vets, a local nonprofit organization.  U.S. Vets provides housing, job training and counseling for veterans in need.

This project is perfect for individuals, families, and groups.  So gather your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues at home, work or school and beginning Monday, September 6 through Friday, September 10 start creating cards and banners to show your appreciation of our homeless veterans in southern Nevada.

All completed cards and banners should be dropped off at the Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada at 1660 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89119 (Monday – Friday from 9am – 4pm).

Personal hygiene or other donation items should be delivered to U.S. Vets at 525 East Bonanza Road, Las Vegas, NV 89101 (Monday – Friday from 8am – 6pm).  Your appreciation banners will be used to decorate the U.S. Vets facility and honor our local heroes.   Your cards and notes will be given to homeless veterans during US Vet’s outreach efforts.  If you have any questions, please contact Pam, at 702-892-2358 or PamelaB@uwsn.org.

Support New Vista Community at Wine Walk - The Big One!  The Wine Walk Program 2010 is here! We will be serving wines paired with local restaurants food samples. There will also be live entertainment and auctions for the guests as you help at one of the 20 wine tasting stations featuring wines from around the world! Bring your TAM card and help pour wine. Another opportunity that needs your support is Latinos Against Heart and Stroke Expo with American Heart Association. Help bring awareness about cardiovascular disease and stroke to the Latino community by providing health, nutrition, and physical activity information. Opportunity Village Fire Response Volunteers

Opportunity Village LogoHave you already cleaned out your house to donate items to Opportunity Village?  Are you now looking to help with fire recovery efforts?  Through a generous donation from Freeman of trailers to haul donations volunteers are now needed to help receive donations at three different locations in southern Nevada.

Multiple days and shifts are available and volunteers are limited to signing up for 2 to 2.5 hour shifts due to the heat.  Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for multiple days if you are interested in helping for more than 2 hours.

Please consider your health and only sign up if you are physically able to be out in the heat.

Due to the generosity of Sam's Club volunteers will have chairs, coolers, water and snacks at each donation site to help combat the heat.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring additional water/snacks, cooling items and sunscreen.
