Be the Change. Volunteer.
Join Us for the Second Annual National Day of Service and Remembrance This year marks the 10th anniversary of September 11th.
Join United Way of Southern Nevada’s Volunteer Center by taking part in the
second annual National Day of Service & Remembrance - Helping
Heroes. Our Helping Heroes project will focus
on assisting at-risk and homeless veterans in southern Nevada in
partnership with U.S. Vets, a local nonprofit organization. U.S. Vets
provides housing, job training and counseling for veterans in need.
This project is perfect for individuals, families, and groups.
So gather your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues at home, work or
school and beginning Monday, September 6 through Friday, September 10th
start creating cards and banners to show your appreciation of our homeless
veterans in southern Nevada. All completed cards and banners should be
dropped off at the Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada at 1660 E. Flamingo
Road, Las Vegas, NV 89119 (Monday – Friday from 9am – 4pm). Personal
hygiene or other donation items should be delivered to U.S. Vets at 525 East
Bonanza Road, Las Vegas, NV 89101 (Monday – Friday from
8am – 6pm). Your appreciation banners will be used to decorate the
U.S. Vets facility and honor our local heroes. Your cards and notes
will be given to homeless veterans during US Vet’s outreach efforts. If
you have any questions, please contact Pam, at 702-892-2358 or PamelaB@uwsn.org.

Opportunity Village Fire Response Volunteers
Have you already cleaned out your house to donate
items to
Opportunity Village? Are you now looking
to help with fire recovery efforts? Through a generous donation from
Freeman
of
trailers to haul donations volunteers are now needed to help receive
donations at three different locations in southern Nevada.
Multiple days and shifts are available and volunteers are limited to
signing
up for 2 to 2.5 hour shifts due to the heat. Volunteers are encouraged
to
sign up for multiple days if you are interested in helping for more than
2
hours.
Please consider your health and only sign up if you are physically
able to be
out in the heat. Due to the generosity of Sam's
Club
volunteers will have
chairs, coolers, water and snacks at each donation site to help combat
the
heat. Volunteers are encouraged to bring additional water/snacks,
cooling
items and sunscreen. Click HERE to sign up.

Support Goodie Two Shoes at Back-to-School Fair! Volunteers will assist children in selecting the shoes of their choice
from GTSF’s shoe-store-on-wheels and assist with general distribution
activities. Groups of volunteers are welcome! Goodie Two Shoes mission is to provide disadvantaged children and children in crisis with new shoes
and socks as well as other items deemed esseetial for good health and
positive development. Another opportunity that needs your support is Life Coach with Project Elevate,
a Project Sunshine of Nevada Program. Project Elevate’s mission is to empower
young adults who are emancipating/aging out from the child welfare system by
teaching them the "Essential Readiness Skills" necessary to live
independently. Project Elevate will be a platform to teach and share critical
information that will help this at-risk group make wiser choices, develop
positive beliefs about their futures, and take personal ownership of their
lives—no matter how problematic their life circumstances have been. The Life
Coach plays a critical role in guiding the youth through this process.
